AURORA’S FLAGSHIP PROGRAMME
‘Meydan’ is the Arabic word for ‘field’ and is the name of Aurora’s flagship programme, where the story began.
The programme aimed to raise social capital by creating productive relations between youth aged 11-18 from a multitude of backgrounds. Bringing together youth and community stakeholders from across 3 governates in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, MEYDAN was designed to embed meaningful exchanges of privilege into everyday life.
In November of 2017, Aurora recruited its first Jordanian U15 boys team from Zaatari village, and worked with partner schools in Amman to recruit a cohort of youth coaches and teachers to deliver a comprehensive sport, education and community programme as part of their civic engagement of efforts.
By February 2020, the Meydan programme saw the trainees become trainers and sharing their learning through various community service activities. The cohort had grown to include boys and girls football teams, a rugby team, the first rural team of its kind in Jordan, and a juniors U13 team from Jerash.
We look forward to returning to our field work in 2022.

"The coaches and teachers from Amman taught us Rugby and English but we also taught them about our culture. You don’t just give or take, you do both and that is how we become one team."
