Happy New Year from everyone at Aurora!
2020 was certainly a testing year, but it made us even more proud to be part of the sport for development family, bringing hope in these most difficult times. We didn’t stop, we remained positive, we kept innovating and kept finding ways for us to come together, learn together and grow together. Our best wishes to our inspiring youth network, our educators, partners, sponsors, volunteers and everyone who has helped us survive this year. We look forward to many more adventures with you in 2021 as we embark on a journey of recovery, to enlighten, empower and engage youth to lead a brighter and more sustainable tomorrow for all.

eGOAL Ambassadors join Generation Amazing Youth Festival 2020
We were very proud to take part in the global festival, where 10 of our newly appointed AFC Youth Social Responsibility Ambassadors delivered a powerful and engaging workshop titled "Can you hear me?". In it, they shared personal reflections on their social responsibility journey and shared top tips for fellow youth on how to connect with their communities and make a positive impact. This was also the first time they showcased their Young Footballer's ABC Guide to making a difference. Well done!

Mentor Meet Ups
As they look to champion social responsibility in their football communities, our young ambassadors have been assigned a sport for development mentor who will guide them through the planning stages of their initiatives. Youth Ambassadors Celebrate eGoal
Star peers from each AFC zone together organised and hosted the eGoal awards ceremony attended by their football communities, friends and family. The awards, selected and voted for by the ambassadors included the “Optimist” award where they celebrated peers who demonstrated positivity and determination - a message of hope and inspiration they set out to promote through this platform. Congratulations to all 83 first ever AFC Youth Social Responsibility Ambassadors! Time to make some waves!

Over to our West Zone Ambassadors
Congratulations to our newly appointed West Zone Ambassadors! Over the course of the eGoal programme, they attended workshops to EDUCATE themselves on the social and moral foundations of sport for development. They were appointed as AFC Youth Social Responsibility Ambassadors to EMPOWER them to lead necessary change. Since then, they have been designing their own initiatives to ENGAGE with peers in their own communities and share their learning. Aurora Welcomes Frederick Farhat
After supporting us in the West Zone pilot, Aurora is pleased to welcome ‘Freddy’ on board as Operations and Logistics Coordinator for the eGoal project. An International Football Business Institute (IFBI) graduate, Freddy brings with him a passion and commitment to football development. He will be working with our stakeholders to ensure the successful virtual delivery of the eGoal programme across 30+ nations. We look forward to working with you on this Asian adventure!

AFC to offer e-Goal programme across its region
Building on the success of the acclaimed e-Goal programme in the West Zone, Aurora is excited to announce that AFC will be offering Aurora’s e-Goal programme to member associations in ASEAN, East, South and Central zones of its region. Over the next couple of months, Aurora will be training participants representing 35 nations across Asia on the social and moral foundations of sport for development and peace. Stay tuned!

Our ambassadors delivered a memorable closing event today. They shared their lessons learnt and the social issues they each want to advocate in their own communities. AFC General Secretary, Dato Winsor, delivered the closing speech and wished the ambassadors the best of luck. Week two of e-Goal completed!
Another wonderful week has flown by and marks the completion of the e-Goal programme for the first cohort of youth social responsibility ambassadors. First week of e-Goal programme a wonderful success
We have successfully completed their first week of the programme! We would like to thank UNDP Accelerator Labs, Generations for Peace, Palestine Sports for Life, Generation Amazing, IFCP, Special Olympics, Indian Blind Football Association and Coaches Across Continents for delivering incredible workshops enlightening our youth on important subjects such as sports and the SDGs, Philanthropy, Inclusivity and Safeguarding.

AFC President Sheikh Salman Joins e-Goal
Today marks the launch of the e-Goal programme in the West Zone of the AFC region. 23 young players, aged 16 to 17 and representing 12 countries in the Middle East, were nominated by their football associations to participate in our special virtual programme. We were honoured to have AFC’s president Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa welcoming our participants and other stakeholders and wishing everyone the best of luck in this important endeavour. Aurora Partners with AFC
We are proud to announce that we have partnered with The Asian Football Confederation to offer a pioneering virtual social responsibility programme in the field of sport for development and peace. The e-Goal programme is the first-of-its-kind in world football and engages young elite players in social development efforts post COVID-19.

As the pandemic continues to keep our field operations on hold, we continue to try to find solutions for the social challenges it presents. Since 2017, we have been on quite a journey! Now, with our offices and fields closed, we find ourselves with a rare opportunity to look inwards. Now, we have the time to really reflect and reassess our priorities. It is truly testing, but we believe that every cloud has a silver lining. Its time to make sure our values and commitments are at the forefront of our actions. For a better tomorrow.

Applications Open for Aurora Coaching Programme
Our CSR partner, City Mall, hosted us this week. The Aurora stand was very popular, with over 50 youth from more than 15 schools in Amman registering to explore volunteer opportunities with Aurora. First Youth Rugby Festival
In presence of HRH Prince Mired Raad Al Hussein, Chairman of Jordan Rugby Federation, the first youth Rugby tournament for kids 10-15 years old was held in Amman. Our teams demonstrated sportsmanship and dedication and managed to secure second place in both U13 and U15. Well done!

Regional Safeguarding Workshop with WAFF
Committed to ensuring ethical, responsible and inclusive football, our founder organised a safeguarding workshop attended by representatives from the Middle East which was hosted by the West Asian Football Federation. Experts from Generations for Peace, Right to Play, UNDP and AFDP Global joined in a panel discussion on collaboration between football associations and development organisations.

We are excited to introduce Tag Rugby to our players from Zaatari and neighbouring villages! This type of rugby is fun, fast-paced, offers a good foundation and most importantly instills positive values and discipline for our players. Tag rugby can be played anywhere and so we plan to take it everywhere!

Rana Al Khawaldeh, Aurora’s Community Leader in Jerash. Rana’s passion for child psychology and education motivated her to complete a Masters degree in Counselling, and she is currently undergoing her PhD in Learning and Child Development. Rana brings valuable work experiences in counselling with educational and non-governmental entities. We look forward to learning together with Rana!

Jerash U13 Boys Try-outs
After two years of testing our special programme in Mafraq, Aurora is now ready to explore new areas in beautiful Jordan. Over 70 boys from 4 villages in the Mastaba area participated in our U13 boys try-outs which included circles of trust as well as a fun football assessment.

Aurora Players Give Back
A very special day, and our players turn to give back to their communities. Our Jordanian girls and boys from Al Mafraq organised a fun-filled day of learning activities for their younger peers at the Palestinian refugee camp. Opportunities like this pave the way for true acceptance, collaboration and sharing of values and privileges. It was wonderful for us to witness our players pass on the valuable lessons they have learnt with us.

“Pillars of Society” Aurora’s Summer Camp
Aurora held a 5-day summer camp for its football teams at the stunning Olive Branch site in Jerash. Our girls and boys spent their days participating in workshops, seminars and fun activities all carefully designed to remind ourselves of our core values: honesty, respect, trust, fairness and responsibility. Aurora Welcomes Haneen
Aurora is delighted to welcome Haneen Al Khateeb on board as Sports Community Administrator. Haneen has represented Jordan in its U-14 Women’s National Team and comes from a sports for development background. Her passion led her to participate in exciting initiatives such as Equal Playing Field, and was chosen to play in the highest and lowest altitude football matches in history at Mt. Kilimanjaro and Dead Sea, Jordan. We look forward to her valuable input.

Aurora Spends Ramadan In Zaatari
We gathered our players, volunteer youth and staff together and moved our operation to Zaatari village to experience Ramadan. Communal iftars, the exchange of Ramadan traditions and sharing of privileges, were all a wonderful way to remind ourselves of the beauty of this holy month.

SFW Ramadan Azraq Tournament
Aurora’s newly qualified coaches organised a Ramadan tournament where 16 teams from different organisations in two age groups (U14’s & U16’s) participated. The heated matches took place during the last couple of hours before iftar and were a wonderful way to share the mission of this project “Playing for a Common Future”. Aurora’s U14’s team played at the final match and won the second place and the U16’s team won the third place. Congratulations to everyone who took part!

Aurora Players Support Jordan Women’s Pro-League 2019
Jordan’s brand new pro women’s league now has 14 professional teams competing, and that is surely something for Jordan to be proud of! Aurora’s shared commitment to not only encouraging girls to take active roles in sport and society but also in preparing tomorrow’s husbands and fathers for an era of empowered women meant we are among the league’s biggest supporters! Our girls team took part in the opening ceremony while our boys teams blessed the venue with encouraging chants throughout the opening match between the Orthodox Club and Shabab Al Urdon club.

Jordan’s ex-football star, Ahmad Hayel, paid a special visit to our participants to share his inspiring journey and give our players an insight on the resilience, character, and sacrifice it takes to achieve your ambitions. Aurora Rugby: A Regional First!
Aurora held a successful Touch Rugby try-out in Zaatari Village and its surrounding area. A brand new sport to Mafraq, whose successful players will form the first youth teams from a rural area in the Middle East. We are excited about this new adventure with Jordan Rugby and our coaches from Nomads Rugby Club. Underrepresented sports, regions and ideas!

"... one of the oldest and fundamentally most unifying of human experiences". We are really excited to now switch up our training days between Amman and our rural areas. Aurora Welcomes Abdel Kareem
Aurora is thrilled to welcome our Community Leader in Mafraq. Abdel Kareem Al Shurfat comes from a sports background, has a BA in Physical Education and is continuing his Masters degree in sports fitness. A registered referee at the Jordan Football Association and a part-time teacher, Abdel Kareem brings a wealth of football and education knowledge. Welcome and we look forward to working with you!

Our Zaatari boys football team was welcomed for a friendly match against Souqar Academy, winning 7-1. We were very proud of the boys, not for the win as much as their respectful and gentlemanly manner.

Our coaches in Al Azraq Refugee Camp conducted a team building day with fun activities that they designed for all their teams. The day was full of competitions, challenges and laughter - a real feel good day for our AFDP/SFW project: Playing for a Common Goal!

HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein Graduates Aurora Blue Coaches
‘AURORA Blue’ coaches graduated and received their certificates of participation by HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein at AFDP after completing a three months coaching course as a part of the professional development programme in Al Azraq Refugee Camp with Street Football World. The Aurora Azraq team spent a beautiful day out in Amman, fun activities followed by the graduation and an enjoyable dinner.

UEFA Foundation for Children and our partners AFDP, along with Pepsico and Lays, have generously opened our first pitch for the ‘AURORA Blue’ project. The pitch will be home to existing and aspiring coaches as they embark on a journey of professional development and community service.

First International Friendly Match
The match went as planned, players followed the instructions and stuck to the the coach’s plan. They overcame the challenging rainy weather. Their fitness level was great with gave them confidence as they didn’t have substitutes. The american team scored the opening goal of the match but that didn’t bring our players down, yet they stayed positive and they fought back to equalise the score. The match ended with a tie

HRH Prince Ali Surprises Our Zaatari Boys at AFDP Global!
Aurora and AFDP organised a surprise meeting for the Zaatari Boys with HRH Prince Ali during their stay in England. The boys had just finished a week’s training at HRH’s favourite club Arsenal and were excited to share their experience with him.

Our Zaatari Boys team enjoyed watching the Women’s Asian Cup (WAC) between Australia and Japan. It was an amazing experience for them to watch and cheer professional women’s teams competing on such a high level.

Our Zaatari Boys played their first match against Al Assriyya Schools U15 first team, and won the match scoring 5 goals and keeping their net clean. They left feeling so proud of themselves and knowing what the result of working hard can mean.
