Our Sportsmanship, Citizenship And Leadership Expedition (SCALE) offers students in Grades 10-12 an insight into the role of sport in safeguarding our planet and its people.

Designed around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) where sports can make a valuable contribution, SCALE includes a series of interactive workshops led by Aurora and its network of education partners. Working with fellow students from across international schools in Jordan, the sessions are a unique space for students to foster civic-mindedness, leadership and responsibility.

Upon completion, students are invited to share their learning with peers in Grade 7-9 through our Peer Education Toolkit, a collection of enjoyable lessons that bring the world of Sport for Development to life.

We are honoured to be working with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to offer young professional players an opportunity to better understand the role of sports in tackling some of the most pressing issues facing humanity today.

To date, 83 ambassadors from 42 countries across Asia have completed our virtual social responsibility programme. National U17 players nominated by their Football Associations undertook 9 workshops on topics including philanthropy in football, emotional intelligence, safeguarding and peer education. Upon completion, participants are awarded an AFC-Aurora Youth Social Responsibility Ambassador certificate and invited to design their own social projects that, with the support of their local football association, they feel would make the most impact in their communities.

Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, in partnership with the Asian Football Development Project (AFDP) and Streetfootballworld, Aurora BLUE was a coaching programme delivered in Al Azraq Refugee Camp.

Local coaches and young volunteer coaches were trained in Aurora’s intensive sport, education and community programme before taking the lead to train 6 in-house teams as well as host community football for good activities.
The campus, with a dedicated 6-a-side football pitch, was designed to offer the community a place where they could come together to reflect, learn and teach the principles of football for physical and mental well-being.

‘Meydan’ is the Arabic word for ‘field’ and is the name of Aurora’s flagship programme, where the story began.

The programme aimed to raise social capital by creating productive relations between youth aged 11-18 from a multitude of backgrounds. Bringing together youth and community stakeholders from across 3 governates in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, MEYDAN was designed to embed meaningful exchanges of privilege into everyday life.

In November of 2017, Aurora recruited its first Jordanian U15 boys team from Zaatari village, and worked with partner schools in Amman to recruit a cohort of youth coaches and teachers to deliver a comprehensive sport, education and community programme as part of their civic engagement of efforts.

By February 2020, the Meydan programme saw the trainees become trainers and sharing their learning through various community service activities. The cohort had grown to include boys and girls football teams, a rugby team, the first rural team of its kind in Jordan, and a juniors U13 team from Jerash.

We look forward to returning to our field work in 2022.
